Understanding the Condition
As older adults' physiological function declines, bladder elasticity decreases and urine storage capacity becomes limited. In the cold winter, the body's soft tissues (skin and blood vessels) contract to conserve warmth, making excessive nighttime urination more likely; this both disturbs sleep and may lead to illness from catching cold.
