Understanding the Condition

Hemorrhoids are soft venous masses formed by the dilation and varicosity of the venous plexuses beneath the mucosa of the lower rectum and beneath the skin of the anal canal. Based on their location relative to the dentate line, they are divided into internal hemorrhoids, external hemorrhoids, and mixed hemorrhoids. Bowel movements are often accompanied by bleeding and pain. In treatment, excess-type cases should mainly cool the blood and dispel wind; cases of qi and blood deficiency should be treated by boosting qi and raising, or by nourishing and enriching the blood.
