Astringes and consolidates, augments Qi and generates fluids, tonifies the Kidneys and calms the mind.
Chinese pharmacopoeia: 收敛固涩,益气生津,补肾宁心。用于久嗽虚跨,梦遗滑精,遗尿尿频,久泻不止, 自汗盗汗,津伤口渴,内热消渴,心导失眠。
Shennong Bencao Jing (~200 CE): classified as a superior herb. Sun Simiao, Qianjin Yaofang (652 CE): praised for astringing lung Qi.
